On the 11thof July, the Sarah Affonso exhibition and the Popular Art of Minho was opened at the Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. The exhibition is dedicated to an unapparelled woman in Portuguese art and society, and her work reflects a particular creative identity and the uniqueness of her life.

This exhibition, which highlights the colour of cobalt blue, features works of painting, drawing, embroidery, ceramics and goldsmithing, inspired by the popular iconography of the Minho Province. It was in parts of this region, where she lived until the age of 15, that Sarah Affonso found inspiration for much of her work.

Tavares, with almost 100 years of existence, was associated with another moment of appreciation of the history, art and memories that are part of our country’s legacy. Pieces of jewellery, from the estate of Casa Tavares were made available to the museum, with unique characteristics and features representative of a culture and an era.

The Sarah Affonso exhibition and the Popular Art of Minho will be on display until the 7thof October at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum Gallery.
