The project to promote the new talents of Portuguese jewellery “Portuguese Jewellery Newborn” was recognised at the European Enterprise Promotion Awards, in Portugal, in the category “Support for the internationalisation of companies”. Alongside the Inov Contacto project, and with more than 600 candidates, it will represent Portugal at the European final that will take place in Helsinki, Finland, on the 26th of November.

This initiative, promoted by AORP – Associação de Ourivesaria e Relojoaria de Portugal ( the Portuguese Jewellery and Watchmaking Association), serves as a launching pad for new creators who wish to promote their brand at national and international level. The aim is to showcase emerging national designers who combine tradition with new design concepts. In addition to this, the campaign also revealed a dynamic of reinvention and rejuvenation in more traditional brands, which felt inspired and motivated to adjust their business models, becoming an example of innovation in tradition.

As explained by Fátima Santos, secretary general of AORP, “the young innovators open new horizons to Portuguese jewellers and we want to continue playing the role of promoters so that they follow more daring paths with a focus on the global market. Winning this award reinforces the essence of the “Portuguese Jewellery Newborn” initiative, aimed at reinventing, innovating and internationalising jewellery in Portugal”.

The European Enterprise Promotion Awards, launched in 2005, are an initiative of the European Commission, coordinated in Portugal by IAPMEI, which seek to identify and recognise successful activities that support and stimulate business initiative in Europe. Annually, this competition highlights the best projects in various areas for the specificity of their contribution to the economic development and employment of the regions.

Portugal is among the countries with the most awards granted by the European Commission so far.
