Sylvie Castro’s creation recently presented, at Solar das Bouças, in Amares, symbolises one of the elements of Valentine’s handkerchiefs and completes the ‘Encounter’ necklace, presented in 2019.

The brand Namorar Portugal, organised by Vila Verde Town Council, recently unveiled the earring collection by Amharic designer Sylvie Castro, which complements the ‘Encounter’ necklace unveiled in 2019. Titled “Birds”, this collection integrates some silver earrings, inspired by “Valentine’s handkerchiefs”.

Sylvie Castro began by thanking everyone for their support and went on to explain the conceptual approach of these earrings. The creator mentioned that “the earrings follow on from the necklace launched in 2019, in which the deconstruction of Valentine’s handkerchiefs is worked on. Deconstructing is taking the elements that are present in embroidery and separating them, redesigning them, without ever losing the identity. Sylvie went on to mention that earrings complement the necklace both on a conceptual level and on a more practical level. “Every woman likes to complete her collections”.

As for the name, the designer explained: “the earrings are called ‘Birds’ because they represent the icon. Here I ended up being more figurative so that it can be understood that, deep down, it is the king element that establishes the communication”. As different occasions call for different pieces, although within the same concept, “there is a proposal with a longer pair and another with a shorter pair, perhaps more for day-to-day wear.” The jewellery is in 925 silver, designed and filled, punctually, with hand filigree. Both are available in gold-plated silver.

At the presentation ceremony, which took place at Solar das Bouças, in Amares and was attended by the heads of Vila Verde and Amares Town Halls, Júlia Fernandes, responsible for the Namorar Portugal brand and councillor for Culture at Vila Verde Town Hall, highlighted that the brand has 70 partners in various parts of the country and has already put thousands of products inspired by the Valentine’s handkerchiefs on the market.

“We have partners with shops on every continent. Many of these objects are already flying around the world and conquering hearts. Love, affection and care are the definition of the brand”, said the councillor.

The mayor of Amarante, Manuel Moreira, praised the creator, Sylvie Castro. “She is a very committed young artist, enterprising, creative, humble and knows well what she does. Only those who fight, and work overcome difficulties”, highlighted Manuel Moreira.

The presentation session of this collection included cultural moments, with trumpet and poetry recitation.
