The Portuguese Association of the Goldsmiths’ Industry (APIO) has just revealed the theme for the 17th Goldsmiths’ Competition. This time the competition will be dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Vasco da Gama’s death.

In 2025, it will be half a millennium since the death of Vasco da Gama, one of the greatest explorers in Portuguese history, whose maritime epic forever marked the Discoveries and our country’s connection to the world.

APIO therefore invites “all professionals in the sector, students and graduates of goldsmithing courses to start thinking about and creating their pieces, taking inspiration from this historical figure and the vast symbolism of the Discoveries”.

More information will be released soon, including the rules and dates.
