“My Sources of Inspirations are People & Animals”
Sonia Álvarez Rodríguez is the mastermind behind Strong Spirit Jewellery, a brand of handmade customised jewellery, made with horsehair and finished with 925 silver or gold-plated silver. “Strong Spirit Jewellery is really important to me, I have been working with horses ever since I was little and I have a passion for unique pieces with a personal meaning, that’s what this company does. Our hallmark is to create emotive jewellery, which becomes a lucky charm for those who receive it”. Stick around to get to know this project better.
What is your story?
My name is Sonia Rodríguez, I was born in Spain but have lived in Vila Pouca de Aguiar since 2012 as my husband is from this region. After overcoming a health problem at 26, I started studying for a Degree in Management at Universidade Portucalense – Infante D. Henrique, in Porto and later completed a Masters in Commercial Management in the Faculty of Economics at Universidade do Porto.
After having my three children, I dedicated the next seven years exclusively to them, leaving my career to one side. In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, the project ‘Samar Art Jewellery’ was launched, jewellery made with resin and polymer clay, finished with silver and silver-plating.
In 2022, ‘Strong Spirit Jewellery’ came about, a project that means so much to me, I quickly became hooked, and it became my priority.
What is your source of inspiration?
My main sources of inspiration are people and animals. As my work is customised for each client, a lot depends on individual tastes, however current trends sometimes influence certain pieces.
