Alcino Silversmith has more than a century of history
The Silversmith family runs a unique space in Porto where various types of silver items are handmade and sold, from decorative pieces to unique or restored jewellery. JoiaPro visited Alcino’s shop and showroom at Rua Santos Pousada, number 76, in Porto, to learn more about this 120-year-old business.
2022 marks the 120th anniversary of the creation of Alcino Silversmith, a jewellery store in Porto that has been owned by the same family for six generations, and that continues to preserve its heritage, its brand and its family values, that have always been its endowment over the years. Alcino Silversmith offers a wide range of products of excellent quality and variety, combining traditional and contemporary pieces, handcrafted in sterling silver and with various other materials.
Manuel Alcino Sousa e Silva founded his own goldsmith workshop in 1902 in Rua Barão de S. Cosme, in Porto which marked the beginning of a family business with a history of more than a century and a great art tradition. Silver is used to shape decorative and tableware pieces, sacred art, author and restoration pieces and jewellery collections. It is a family heritage, passed on from parents to their children, and which is still quite widespread today. The secret? “The secret is in the hands that, with firmness and softness, seduce the silver and give it a shape and a soul. Gestures that are repeated and internalised, in a constant and always innovative improvement”, says Manuel Alcino, CEO of Manuel Alcino & Filhos.
