Finouro obtains RJC certification
Finouro, a jewellery brand based in Guimarães, has become the first Portuguese company to obtain certification from the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), one of the leading international bodies setting responsibility standards for the jewellery and watchmaking industries.
According to the RJC’s official register, Finouro (Ouro Fino Unipessoal Lda) joined the organisation in May 2017 and belongs to the members’ forum dedicated to manufacturers and wholesalers in the sector. Its current certification under the Code of Practices is valid from 16 August 2025 to 16 August 2028. The company is also listed as certified in Chain of Custody for the same period.
Two standards, two objectives
The Code of Practices is the RJC’s core standard for responsible business practices and covers legal compliance, human rights, working conditions, environmental management and supply chain integrity. The Chain of Custody certification adds traceability for materials such as gold and silver, strengthening confidence in the origin and journey of the metals used in products.
In Finouro’s case, its previous Chain of Custody certificate covered gold and silver, with the first audit taking place on 9 May 2022. At the time, the company marked the milestone as an achievement, noting that it was the first and only one in Portugal.
Trust in a more demanding market
Founded in 1998, Finouro develops, designs and manufactures jewellery in Guimarães, an activity that forms the scope of the certification. The company believes the recognition strengthens its credibility with clients, partners and national and international brands, at a time when consumers and businesses increasingly seek assurances about the origin of materials and production conditions.
Finouro also sees the certification as a positive signal for Portuguese jewellery as a whole, paving the way for national production to be valued according to globally recognised standards of quality, ethics and sustainability.
