Carmo Jewellery celebrates centenary with Filigree exhibition
Until 27 December, the Roca Lisboa Gallery is hosting the exhibition ‘Filigrana: 100 Years of Carmo Jewellery’, which reveals ‘traditional Filigrana motifs from emblematic pieces’ through unique handmade jewellery.
The initiative brings together pieces such as the recreation of the Belém Tower, dating from 1977-78, or the ‘Double Heart in Filigree’, created in 1970, which was worn by actress Sharon Stone in 2014.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through time, ‘from the origins of jewellery, frequented by Lisbon’s elite, to their exclusive dedication to Filigree, demonstrating how this centuries-old art remains alive and vibrant, whether in traditional or contemporary design, through its ability to reinvent and innovate,’ they said in a statement.
As part of this initiative, a round table with the motto ‘The New Challenges of Portuguese Filigree’ will be held at the Roca Lisboa Gallery on 21 November, providing a space for debate on the future of this art.
The exhibition can be visited free of charge from Monday to Friday between 10.30am and 5.30pm.
