‘Amália Rodrigues inspired us completely’

How did you come up with the idea for Portugal Jewels’ new collection in partnership with the Amália Rodrigues Foundation?

The idea for the new collection was born out of the collaboration between Portugal Jewels and the Amália Rodrigues Foundation, at a time of great dynamism for the Foundation. Over the last few months, we have dedicated ourselves to exploring the various facets of this great diva, from her global influence and creative genius to her more intimate moments like Brejão. There was one omnipresent element: flowers, a true passion of Amália’s, with countless enchanting accounts of her love for them. This collection pays homage to the iconic Fado singer through jewelry that reflects her passion for nature and the beauty of flowers, creating pieces that are both a tribute to her memory and a celebration of the art of Portuguese jewelry.

How do you define the models in the new collection?

The jewelry in the new collection, entitled ‘Amália e As Flores’, is inspired by Amália’s passion for flowers. We chose the cherry blossom because Amália liked to say that she was born during cherry season. We designed the jewelry around these flowers and with accents that replicate their branches. Each piece of jewelry was designed to reflect Amália’s elegance and irreverent personality, capturing her unique essence. A clear example of this is the Coração de Amália jewel, which recreates the emblematic Coração de Viana, integrating traditional elements of Portuguese jewelry with a contemporary twist.

As Amália Rodrigues was a big fan of jewelry, how did the great Fado diva inspire you in these new pieces?

Amália Rodrigues inspired us completely. All the jewelry was designed with the focus that Amália would choose to wear it. We created eye-catching and irreverent pieces that Amália could combine and mix with her wardrobe, which included brands such as Prada, YSL, and Charles Jourdan. The collection reflects her vibrant personality and her love of fashion and nature.
