Colour Descriptors for the Brown Diamond
On the first day of the Chinese year of the Tiger (2nd of February 2022), I bring you the Tiger Eye Diamond and, because learning is fascinating, let’s discuss the colour descriptors of the brown diamond. Diamonds of certain colours or hues have been assigned romantic descriptors, such as 19th century “Cape” for yellow coloured stones.
In the case of the 61.56 carat Tiger Eye Diamond, the colour is clearly brown and has been described as a “Cognac” diamond, a rather visual comparison, refined and tasteful like the special liqueur from the Cognac region of France.
