Tissot marks centenary of the Amália Rodrigues´s birth
Tissot, true to its tradition of honoring examples of Portuguese excellence, presents its new special edition 2019/2020: the Tissot Amália watch, with a female version and a male version. A tribute from the Swiss brand to the Fado diva, in an exclusive edition for the Portuguese market and created to mark the centenary of Amália Rodrigues’s birth, in 2020.
Known as the “Rainha do Fado” and a true Portuguese ambassador to the world, Amália da Piedade Rodrigues was born in 1920 in Lisbon, in the parish of Pena, in a modest family from Beira Baixa. She lived in the neighborhood of Alcântara until she was 19 years old. She worked as a seamstress apprentice, embroiderer, worker and, with her sister Celeste, sold fruit on the Alcântara pier, and in 1938 was chosen to sing the “Fado Alcântara” as a soloist, in the celebrations of the Popular Saints, following the popular march of her neighborhood.
