Portugal Jewels unveils “Amália e As Flores” collection
Portugal Jewels and the Amália Rodrigues Foundation have just presented the “Amália e as Flores” Jewelry Collection. A collection inspired by Amália’s relationship with flowers, and which captures her unique connection with nature in her emotional and luminous approach to life.
The “Amália e As Flores” collection was born out of a partnership between the Amália Rodrigues Foundation and Portugal Jewels, to revive in the present the memory of a major icon of Portuguese culture: the Fado singer Amália Rodrigues.
Comprising 15 pieces, the collection transports us to a more intimate and human dimension of Amália, through pieces that reflect and inspire her aesthetic, but which present a more singular and luminous perspective on her connection with nature. It’s a collection that pays tribute to Amália’s style and aesthetic, recognized for her striking and very cosmopolitan image.
It is thought that Amália was born in the time of cherries, which made cherry blossoms the collection’s central decorative element. Inlaid and hand-engraved in gold-plated silver by expert craftsmen, the flowers appear in various scales and are combined with colored stones on necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, and brooches.
Some of the pieces in the collection convert themselves into elements that can be used in different ways: the “Lá Vão as Flores de Amália” brooch, in gold-plated silver, is a piece made up of two flowers joined by a chain that can be removed. In the “Florescer Amália” earrings, the trunk of the cherry tree may or may not be combined with the flower.
“Amália e As Flores” is an interpretation of the jewelry Amália would choose to wear today. Fancy, irreverent jewelry that she would combine uniquely and her style. Way ahead of her time, Amália was a unique woman and an iconic reference for all of us,” says Joana Bastos Gomes, designer and founder of Portugal Jewels.
“Amália used to pick flowers in Monsanto while walking around Lisbon. These simple gestures reveal not only her deep connection with nature but also her irreverent personality”, shares Vicente Rodrigues, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Amália Rodrigues Foundation.
The “Amália e As Flores” collection is now available on the Portugal Jewels website and selected points of sale.
